Unforgetable Christmas Celebration with the Children

On the 27th of December 2008, leo members of SMKDL planned a Christmas celebration with the children of Rumah Wawasan. As usual, we prepared everything and surprisingly the celebration was more than I expected. Guitar players and vocalists were there . Vocalist who was our Leo president, Leo Sher Leen was practicing Christmas Carols before the celebration started.

It started at 9.30 am after waiting everyone's arrival. Christmas tree was sponsored by our handsome looking Leo Jun Wu.. The kids were eying to decorate the Christmas tree with the tinsels we prepared and yes, we took picture of them. (yay!)

We started our caroling session first. Unfortunately, we printed the wrong lyrics, it was a totally different lyrics that we were going to sing with them. Instead of a sing-along session, we sang in front of them. Those adorable faces were as innocent as fluffy bears, they couldn't really sing-along with us so they just looked at us. Without bored-ing them, we chose the simplest and famous songs among the caroling, "We wish you a Merry Christmas" and "Jingle-bells". Who wouldn't know how to sing? so yep, they sang!

Next it was the game session, Leo Farng Hui had this crazy game in her mind. The game goes like this, while singing the words out loud, you would have to move exactly the direction you mentioned.

"Side, side, side, side and front and back,
and side and front and side and back,
and side and front and back"

Try this game when you are free.. It would be a hilarious ice-breaking game. =D
They were separated into two groups and they started competing among each other. Of course, they had lotsa fun with the silly game!

*Stomachs growling* how could a celebration happened without any snacks? so yep! snack time after that. Food and beverage were given! yummy~

Credits go to us!! We had lotsa fun too!!

INFO ZONE
Coach Graver Started the Ball Rolling

Forty-eight years ago, Coach Jim Graver started ball rolling. Chances are the ball was a baseball.

Back in 1957, Graver was the coach of Abington High School, Pennsylvania, USA, baseball team. Graver was also an active member of the Glenside, Pennsylvania, Lions Club.

With fellow Lion, William Ernst, Graver talked about starting a service club for high school boys.

So they asked their fellow Lions for support. Without hesitation, the Glenside Lions agreed that a Lions Youth group was a good idea. Graver and Ernst set out to work.

On December 5th 1957, the Glenside Lions presented a charter to the Abington High School Leo Club whose member were mostly made up of high school's baseball team.

As the world's first Leo Club, the group created the acronym - Leadership, Equality, Opportunity, (equality was later changed to Experience). And, the group chose maroon and gold, their school colors to represent the club.
Recruiting New Leos

Recruiting new club members is an on-going process. Often, new club members introduce new club projects and activities.

Potential new Leo Club members can be recruited from among classmates, friends, and relatives.

Leos can ask others to help identify potential new members. They can ask teachers, coaches, family members, lions etc.

The media is another source for the recruitment of new Leos. The accomplishements of sucessful young leasders are often featured in the local media. Leos can contact these young achievers and invite them to join their Leo Club.

Once a young person exhibits interest in joining a club, Leo leaders can invite the prospect to the club's next fundraiser or service project. During the event, the Leos can introduce the newcomer to their club members. Allow the prospect to decide if Leo Club membership is right for him or her.

Leo Club Program and Motto

The Leo Club Program objective:

Membership Retention Ideas

Keeping members active and involved is the responsibility of every club member. Leos can encourage new members in the following ways:
  • Welcome new club members by personally introducing them to current members.
  • Utilize the talent and interest of Leos.
  • Organize a service project to provide members a sense of belonging and achievement.
  • Praise club members for their accomplishments.
  • Involve every member.
  • Nominate Leos for awards whenever they qualify.

Retaining current club members is just as important as adding new members. Leos will remain interested in the club if it is:

  1. Well organized.
  2. Financially stable.
  3. Is dedicated to important projects.
  4. Promotes a sense of trust amongst members.
  5. Keeps members involved.
  6. Provides recognition for member's efforts.
  7. Considers the input of members in club decisions.
Welcome to Leo Club!!
